The Mental Aspect of Boxing
Anyone who watches boxing on Dish Network and tells you it’s nothing but a bunch of mindless violence has completely missed the point when it comes to the sport. Boxing is all about mentality. Some people call it mind games while other people say it’s all about getting in the head of your opponent but everything from the identity you project on your opponent to your tactics in the ring are very much mental activities. As human beings, fighting is one of the most primitive things we have – it is a savage call back to our ancient ancestry and it is the one thing we all share in common. Boxing just gives people an outlet for those urges in a controlled environment.
The Japanese have a term that roughly translates to “killing energy” or “death sight.” It is basically a term used to describe the manifestation of your energy and how your enemies perceive it. You see it all the time in the wild, two wolves might square off against one another and the one who comes out on top is usually the one who projected the most intimidating “presence.” For some fights, all it takes is a strong projection and the unspoken promise to your opponent that you will destroy them, and that alone can end a fight before it even starts. No, boxing is very much a mental activity. Call it mind games, call it tactics – but boxing is far from mindless.
What Equipment Is Essential For Boxing?
Just as with any sport, boxing requires special equipment. Boxing gloves are essential, but, it is important that the gloves match the exercise being done. Speed bag gloves are worn while practicing on a speed bag. Heavy bag gloves are worn while using the larger heavy bag. Sparring gloves are used when boxing against a human opponent.
